A shame too because I was interested in the premise. She disappears with her mother, whose paranoia about being followed by the FBI leads her to construct new Jewish identities for them. Caucasia is narrated by a young biracial girl, Birdie Lee, who is taken into the political underground by her mother, and forced to live under an assumed identity.
All the above are reasons why a book becomes a classic, it stands out as not just a good read but an important piece of art with something to say about the human experience. The story is mostly Birdie’s, and it is from her perspective that the book examines the struggle of being true to the heritage handed down from each parent and yet being your own person. Carmen, Penelope, her classmates, and later on even Sandy deny Birdie’s blackness and expect her to behave as if she was white. I don’t want to give the story away but senn monumental and you will be emotionally involved in this book.

While Cole denounces her White heritage and passes as Black and Sandy resists the idea of passing as a wasp, Birdie is one of the main characters who experiences a complete disassociation with anything that would indicate a connection to her cauxasia. Their father Deck was a professor and their mother Sandy was a liberal from a well to do Boston family. When the political situation in Boston finally reaches its boiling point the Lees make a decision that will rock Birdies world.

It was something that was on my mind a lot at the time, ssnna it was exactly the right book for me then. No daughter of his is going to pass. The fate of the mulatto in history and in ssenna, he said, will manifest the symptoms that will eventually infect the rest of the nation.

The novel gathers the pace of a thriller as the cacasia Birdie becomes a runaway searching for her scattered family. There are no discussion topics on this book yet.
